Overview
Our client is an independent firm of Chartered Accountants with a tax department consisting of tax professionals, advising on both corporate tax and personal tax matters. The Private Client department provides tax planning, advisory and compliance services to a range of clients including high-net-worth individuals, landed estates, members of the arts community, owner-managed businesses, Trusts, Partnerships and Estates.
The Role
A role has become available for a Private Client Manager to run the Private Client department. This is a client-facing role, requiring the individual to manage c. 500 tax returns, respond to incoming queries, review the work of Tax Seniors and Supervisors and provide advice to clients continuously. You will be responsible for:

Providing tax advisory and tax compliance services to the firms’ private client base.

Supporting the technical and personal development of the tax team.

Reviewing complex Tax Returns prepared by other members of the team.

Managing the delivery of P11D returns for a small portfolio of business clients.

Managing the firm’s CGT on UK Property Returns service.

Proactively identifying opportunities for restructuring clients’ tax affairs.

Providing specialist tax advice to clients including IHT planning, wealth structuring, succession planning, transactions in securities, choice of business vehicle and general owner-manged business tax advice as it affects the shareholders/owners.

Dealing with HMRC on tax investigations.

Working closely with the Tax Partner and acting as first point of contact for private clients.

Ongoing review of compliance processes within the department, ensuring best practice.

Managing the department’s IT strategy, including ensuring that all the software used is fit for purpose, evaluating new products that may be of interest and driving the firm’s MTD offering.

Attending weekly manager meetings and working with the leadership team on firm-wide projects from time to time.
The Candidate
The successful candidate will demonstrate the following:

Preferably CTA qualified (but all candidates with the relevant skillset and experience welcome to apply).

A high level of technical knowledge, and experience with using online technical resources to research and summarise complex issues for partners and clients.

Genuine enthusiasm for developing relationships with clients and acting as a Trusted Adviser.

Experience of leading a Private Client Tax team, or for Assistant Managers looking to take a step up, experience of leadership at project level or in a particular field of specialism.

Ability to manage workflow for the department in a busy and demanding environment, and to manage and prioritise own workload.

Outstanding written and verbal communication, with the ability to adapt your style to suit a variety of audiences.
