Metier Peoples is delighted to be exclusively partnering with an innovative, scaling business looking to appoint a newly created Financial Controller position into the Finance team. This role is to be based in North Lanarkshire and the organisation offers a hybrid working model.

This is a number two position to the FD and ideally requires a qualified accountant who has experience working in a SME environment. This is a varied role with responsibility for monthly reporting, financial analysis, budgeting, forecasting, cash management, system implementation and process improvement.

In time, as the finance team grows you will take on responsibility for managing and developing the team. This is a fast paced, hands-on environment and requires a finance professional who is proactive, commercially minded and a strong problem solver.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Month end close balance sheet and profit and loss processes

  • Support the business with reporting and ensure that the reporting is completed within set deadlines and reporting quality is one of the required standards and is applied consistently

  • Fully responsible for the financial reporting of the business, monitoring the actual costs versus budget

  • Treasury / cash management

  • Manage inventory cycle and variance analysis

  • Manage fixed asset register and associated depreciation

  • VAT and corporation tax including submission of returns.

  • Preparation of statutory accounts, completion of Audit and annual submission

  • Assist with completion of budget and forecast cycles when requested, draft management accounts and commentary and with grant application, documentation, audit and submission where necessary

Candidate requirements:

  • Qualified accountant (CA/ACCA/CIMA or equivalent)

  • Experience working in a similar SME environment and a varied finance role

  • Intellectually curious with a desire to learn about chosen industry / sector

  • High level of consistency, accuracy and numeracy

  • Proactive and positive mindset which embraces change

  • Excellent Microsoft Office skills

  • Ability to be flexible and collaborate to support the success of a small team

  • Experience of implementing new accounting and ERP systems

  • Knowledge of using the Xero accounting system
