Our client is a global technology company with offices in Glasgow and Edinburgh. The tax function has experienced significant growth and is now seeking a Tax Manager to join the team.

Your Role:

Reporting to the Head of Direct Tax, this newly-created role will support and contribute towards the organization’s global tax compliance and advisory work. Given the small size of the team, you will have opportunities to work on a variety of tax projects with the chance to work on the global spectrum of taxation (some of which you can learn on the job) as well as owning our tax accounting and forecasting obligations.  In short there is little chance of any two days being the same.

Main responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting global tax compliance, ensuring deadlines are met.

  • Forecasting our corporate and deferred tax positions for our global consolidation

  • Preparation of corporate and deferred tax entries for our management, group reporting, and statutory accounts

  • Reviewing and validating global tax returns prepared by external advisors

  • Analysing the corporate tax impact of business expansion into new territories

  • Analysing the impact of changes to tax legislation (including any new digital services taxes) implemented and updating procedures to ensure we stay compliant

  • Supporting the preparation of our Research and Development incentive claims in the UK and Spain, reviewing availability of R&D incentives available in our countries of operation

  • Working with our commercial teams to ensure tax impacts of contracts are known and understood

  • Identifying tax claims or registrations, and double tax treaty applications to meet our filing obligations and/or optimise our tax positions

  • Ensuring records are prepared and retained which are SOX compliant

  • Assisting with the preparation of our global Transfer Pricing documentation and managing the group’s global transfer pricing policies

  • Liaising with Treasury to ensure that tax payments are made on time and working with external advisors to ensure overseas taxes are calculated correctly and paid on time.

  • Preparation of ad-hoc tax returns

  • Ad-hoc tax research on subjects such as withholding tax, share plans, employee benefits, digital economy legislation changes and on many more

Your experience:

  • Broad tax technical knowledge gained through working in a tax function (in-house / practice)

  • Confident in preparation of deferred tax calculations and deferred tax asset recognition under IFRS

  • Previous experience or knowledge of travel industry taxes and e-commerce desirable

  • A qualified or part-qualified accountant

  • The ability to work independently, take initiative and create solutions

  • Capable of working under pressure, prioritising and coordinating workload

  • Ability to build relationships with colleagues and external advisers across the world

  • Excellent MS Office skills, in particular Excel skills

  • Fluency in English

The Ideal Candidate will also have:

·         Proven interest in learning about global taxes and keeping up to date with tax legislation changes

·         A willingness to embrace our Tax Strategy, operating honestly with a desire to do the right thing

·         International tax experience or knowledge of relevant overseas tax regimes is a plus

  • Excited by working in a multi-cultural, fast-growing, fast-paced environment

  • Experience with tax technologies and software
